What a Fantastic day! After many months of preparation for Leadership Roanoke Valley Education Team’s Celebration of Education, we presented our day long program. We took a detailed look into how Roanoke City Schools ARE measuring up and preparing the workforce of tomorrow. We highlighted the positives happening at William Flemming High School, Forest Park Academy, and Patrick Henry High School. We provided our participants a hands on experience on how ROTEC and Governor’s School are preparing student to enter the workforce or enter college successfully.
In April 8, we organized a group of VT Alumni for the Spring Community Service Event call the Alumni Big Event! The Big Event is a community-wide event at Virginia Tech that encourage students to get out and volunteer in the community. We have over 40 Alumni Chapters participate.
I organized my Winter project for Seniors called Stocking For Seniors. In this initiative, I partnered with Villages of Africa, Fetch and Sleep EZ in Lewis Gale. They served as drop off locations. While their patrons stopped to drop off filled stockings packed with personal items, games, clothes, etc. Recipients were nominated by members of the community. I spent the days leading up to Christmas Eve delivering gifts for my Stockings for Seniors initiative. I did not get as many donations this year, but I was still able to deliver stockings of 18 seniors living at home! Every ounce of impact is necessary and proper.
I had the awesome opportunity to speak on the Inclusive VT Project 2022 Panel at Virginia Tech today! I was all nerves until Lisa, my coworker gave me the time honored advice, “Tighten up!” Nothing like some tough love! For reals….. I needed that encouragement! I can’t wait for the next opportunity to participate in something this exciting!
On October 1, 2016, I participated in the Alzheimer’s Walk and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association! Great day overall. Hundreds of participants came out to show their support of their friends and loved ones marred by this horrible disease. Thank you to everyone who donated and or participated in this wonderful event in the Roanoke Valley!
I had a blast planning the Virginia Tech extended campus Big Event project for Roanoke chapter Alumni. We most certainly braved the elements! Special thanks to the Clean Valley Council for providing this site for us!

On August 2, 2015 Soaring Ridge Brewery hosted Roanoke Chapter of the Virginia Alumni Association’s event with the legendary VT professor Jim Wightman who gave an entertaining presentation about the Chemistry of Beer! Click here to see more pics I uploaded on our Facebook Page..
On November 12, 2015, VT Alumni Association Roanoke Chapter hosted a game watching party at Corned Beef & Co.
Tonight for the first time, I watched the beautiful display of fireworks at River’s Edge Park here in Roanoke. I had my patriotic gear- a small flag in my SUV, a red T-shirt with American flag printed on the front, and a comfy red lounge chair. Many areas were packed, but I was able to find a wonderfully secluded area to set up.
I am so excited I just had to share a post-event update. As many of you know, I’ve been working on the 2nd annual benefit for the Cultural Arts For Excellence–The CAFE 5k Family Fun Run/Walk. I am always on cloud 9 after seeing a project come to fruition. It’s like a runner’s high! After months and months of hard work on marketing strategy and designing promotional campaigns for the event, I finally saw the fruits of our labor.
Downtown Roanoke had its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration today sponsored by Event Zone. There were over 50 vendors. Local merchants set up shop outside of their stores with various promotions. With all of the bands and local bars blasting Irish themed music, I’m sure everyone had a blast. Not to mention a bit of booze enhanced the festivities! Here are a few pictures from the event.
