Celebrating Columbus Day with a Moscow Mule

This evening to celebrate the end of Columbus Day, I ran to the store to purchase a few ingredients for one of my new special occasion beverages–the Moscow mule. The copper mugs, ice mallet, cloth bag, ginger syrup, I received in last month’s Bespoke Post Shipment. It was on point. It was very enjoyable and a great way to mellow out on a cool and crisp autumn night.

Bellini Cipriani: How to Rock Out With My Favorite Drink

I want to introduce you to one of my favorite Gentlemanly (alcoholic) beverage. While, I do drink often, I do indulge from time to time. The drink is called a Bellini. It was created in 1948 by Harry Cipriani at Harry’s Bar in Venice, Italy. It was named after 15th Century artist Jacopo Bellini. He names Bellini as his drink had reminded him the color of a Toga one of the artist’s paintings. The combination of indegredient create a wonderfully sophisticated drink that any gentleman or lady can enjoy. The drink became a seasonal speciality at Harry’s Bar. The Bellinis is and IBA (International Bartenders Association) Official Cocktail.

Chicken and Zucchini Marinara Just Gave Me Life!

I started the day performing cardio in the gym on the Dynamize program on Bodybuilding.com. This is day four and I am enjoying it thus far. I am trying to lift heavier weight and shock the muscle each session. As far as nutrition is concerned, I have set myself up pretty well mentally to not eat out and to eat healthier meals. Trust me it was not easy, but I am in the swing of things now. This evening, after work, I made a stop at Kroger and I was searching for bodybuilding recipes only. I came across this Chicken and Zucchini Marinara.  I just got finished devouring it. It is so good, you have to try it! Here’s how to do it!

Weekly Meal Prep

I just created an awesome recipe that I call the “The Bachelor”. I promise you its tastes better than it looks! This was a perfect crockpot meal if you are creating meals the week. It is pretty quick and  simple to prepare. I began cooking it at 6 o’clock and it was done by 10 o’clock. I used a thermometer to make sure the temperature has reached at least 165 degrees. I am a food safety nut, and learned this from my days in food service management. Below are the ingredients and directions! I tell ya, it was delicious. Give it a try. Let me know if you do! 250K Fitness Challenge

On Monday January 11, 2016 , I start my second body transformation. My first was in 2012. There was no formal plan. I just attempted to eat right and run. In 5 months, I felt like different person and I had significantly more energy.  I gained confidence and learned a higher level of self-discipline. Thankfully, Whiles some of it has returned,  I kept most of the weight off.

The Struggle Is Real When Getting In Shape

I almost lost my mind in the grocery store this evening. Never shop hungry! I went for Quinoa and started picking up everything I didn’t need. Unsalted peanuts, hummus, Greek yogurt ice cream, black beans. I was trying to convince myself these purchases were necessary because they were healthy…My creativity kicked in and all of a sudden I had an idea for a tilapia wrap! Needless to say, I made my rounds putting everything back except the Quinoa, so I could keep it simple and stick with appropriate portions. I fought the good fight and stay on track with chicken breast, spinach and Quinoa. It was a great test in #mindcontrol.

Sometimes We Need a Little Treat

Today, I treated myself out to lunch for reaching a goal I had set a month ago.  That goal, ironically, was to become more healthy and eat out less often. Prior to setting this goal, I was eating out breakfast, coffee, lunch, coffee, and dinner.  Yes, coffee got its own meal time. I like to eat and I need my caffeine I.V. drip. I know I was spending about $10-$15 for lunch and dinner at least! Now, think about that 5-7 days a week! But I resolved to completely turned that around and began preparing all of my meals at home.  It is not so bad once you have a routine down which is something that I will describe in another post.  I realized that when you dictate how your day will go and be diligent about it, I could dramatically curb my outlandish spending habits on gourmet meals, and let’s not mention, saving money. I saved approximately $150 by cooking at home and actually eating the left overs the next day. It was hard to break the mindset: “I don’t do leftovers…” It actually isnt’ that bad. Well anyway, I figured I would treat myself out once or twice a month. So today’s pick was the Wall Street Tavern. They have the most decadent burger in the Roanoke Valley. This burger I ordered medium-well was thick, juicy, and the beef is real, y’all. I was about to order cheddar cheese, but opted for brie along with lettuce, tomato and red onion. The Red onion was a bit strong, so I took those off. It was so good, a tear came to my eye. ;-(. As my side item, I ordered Macaroni and cheese. How could one go wrong from the plethora of choices. This was not your boxed Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese, this was the type that you tasted at grandma’s house on Sunday and church homecoming. It was divine.  It was cheesy and rich. My kind of entrée. For now, I am in la-la land and have to mentally recalibrate to get back on track and reach my goal next month. I will try out a new restaurant and tell y’all about it.  So next time you are downtown Roanoke, go to the City Market building and there you will find The Wall Street Tavern and order the famous Wall Street Burger. Working Out is a Must!

“I hate off days from the gym so much.” Now that is something you will rarely hear anyone ever say. However, that is truly, how I feel on my days off. I know that my body needs the rest, but the energy that I get from a great workout makes me come back for more. When I first started working out, I used to dread the gym, but I kept at it until one day, I started longing to go workout. It has been so a vital part of my daily ritual that I can not see myself turning back. So in an effort, to keep my sanity on my off day, I am going to give in and go to the gym.
